Officials: Campbell Danesh inhaled chloroethane

AP: Rochester, Minn. A Minnesota medical examiner found that singer and actor Darius Campbell Danesh suffocated after inhaling chloroethane.

The 41-year-old singer and actor was found lifeless in his Minnesota residence on Aug. 11. The autopsy found accidental death. No "intent or suspicious circumstances" were found, investigators added.

Danesh's family stated he took chloroethane for chronic pain after a 2010 automobile accident in Spain damaged his neck.

The family stated medical exams revealed Darius' death was caused by chloroethane, a painkiller that led to respiratory arrest.

Chloroethane is a colourless, flammable gas or liquid. It's also utilised as an inhalant street drug.

Campbell Danesh, born in Glasgow to a Scottish mother and Iranian father, performed on "Popstars" in 2001 and sang Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time"

Later that year, he won Simon Cowell's "Pop Idol," a reality-talent show hybrid. Gareth Gates and Will Young beat him. 2002's "Colourblind" from "Dive In" topped the U.K. charts.

Campbell Danesh appeared in "Chicago" and "Guys and Dolls" on the West End. In a "Gone With the Wind" musical, he played Rhett Butler.

He won "Popstar to Operastar" in 2010 and performed "Carmen" at London's O2 Arena.
