This Costco Rival Is Drastically Changing Its New Stores
BJ's Wholesale Club is known for its massive warehouses and discounts, but what if you could shop the popular brand on a more intimate scale?
It's about half the size of a regular BJ's and features everything you'd find in a regular BJ's: fresh foods, produce, and seasonal items.
The BJ's Market store will open on May 6th and is only 43,000 square feet. Members will be able to buy in quantity at the same prices as full-fledged BJ's clubs.
In a statement, Bill Werner, executive vice president of strategy and development at BJ's Wholesale Club, said, "BJ's Market will serve as an exciting new innovation lab for BJ's Wholesale Club."
Current BJ's members will have immediate access to BJ's Market, according to BJ's. Customers who join up at BJ's Market will have full access to all BJ's clubs and gas stations, which will help fund the new store.
When BJ's President and CEO Robert Eddy reported fiscal 2021 results in early March, he mentioned the impending BJ's Market in Warwick.
In a March 3 call with investors, Eddy added, "As we look ahead at the different ways we might expand new units, we will also establish a small-box trial this year."
"While it has the potential to become a new expansion vector for us, it will first serve as an innovation lab."
